A T-piece, such as SafeT, is a recommended device by the American Heart Association and American Academy for Pediatrics for neonatal and newborn resuscitation. It is designed specifically for use on patients weighing less than 10 kg / 22 lb.
Clinicians responsible for providing care for newborns and babies in the NICU and in the labor/delivery suite should choose SafeT when responding to emergency resuscitation episodes.
The AHA and AAP do not endorse any specific brand of T-piece resuscitator. However, they do recommend the use of a T-piece resuscitator for neonate and newborn resuscitation. A T-piece, such as SafeT, is a recommended device by the American Heart Association and American Academy for Pediatrics for neonatal and newborn resuscitation. It is designed specifically for use on patients weighing less than 10 kg / 22 lb.
SafeT is designed to be a safe solution for responding to emergency resuscitation episodes. Most importantly, the clinician can consistently deliver pre-set PIP and PEEP pressures to the patient unlike self-inflating and hyperinflation devices. Additionally, with an integrated manometer, SafeT helps prevent over-pressurization of babies’ fragile lungs. The ease of set up and use of SafeT enables the clinician to quickly respond to resuscitation emergencies.
Unlike a self-inflating/BVM or hyperinflation system, the PIP pressure can be pre set prior to use. Also, the SafeT does not require hand compressions to manually deliver the breath.
While other T-piece devices also include a manometer, the SafeT manometer is integrated directly above the patient valve. This is enables either a right- or left-handed clinician to resuscitate without obstructing the view of the manometer and the patient’s face.
One of the advantages of using SafeT over a BVM or hyperflation is ease of set up and use. To set up, simply attach the universal O2 connector (Fits-All) to the gas source and set flow. Next, adjust PIP and PEEP settings; this preparation for use takes only seconds. Continuous flow oxygen combined with pre-set PIP and PEEP makes use very easy and consistent.
Your choice of six cushion masks are available with the SafeT: X-small neonate, small neonate, neonate SoftSeal, small infant, infant, and infant SoftSeal.
